HostGator Tech Saves MobileBeyond
Bloggers and other Web writers worry constantly about data loss. While making changes in cPanel tonight, something a blogger should never do, the entire MobileBeyond site collapsed. Not only my desktop website but mobile browsers worldwide.
All the wisdom of the ages from mobile, wireless and media experts disappeared in a grand whoosh of data bytes. Restoring my site from my backups proved fruitless.
But neither praying to the data storage gods, while making alligator sounds, retrieved my volcanic wisdom etched into disk drives. Nah, curse the bits and bytes of blogs. Time for a HostGator Tech.
HostGator Tech Scurries Like a Croc
John S. at HostGator quickly restored my lost words pounded out one by one into my computer. The Hostgator Tech retrieved my entire hosting account from a backup.

“Hello Brian,
The database backups corrected any database issues, but the files themselves are missing, which is causing the site to not load.
The database is separate from the files, so we do suggest taking file backups that correspond with the database backups so you have a complete set to restore from if necessary.
Your restore request is currently under way at this time.
At this time, I’m performing a full account backup, prior to running the restore. This is out of an abundance of caution, in the event we need to roll back to the pre-restore state, or otherwise make modifications post-restore.”
“Once that has completed we will proceed with the restore from our NAS backup server.
We will update you on the progress of the restore, or when it is completed. If you have any questions or clarifications, please feel free to contact us during the restore process. We are here to help.
Thank you very much. We will write back shortly.”

Notice John’s use of phrasing: “…an abundance of caution,” “…roll back to the pre-restore state” and “…make modifications post-restore.” Ah, the language of a poet stuck in a data center. John not only offers caution but an “abundance of it.” Management must have imported John from a prestigious Eastern school with master English teachers.
John’s “we are here to help” sounds authentic, as if he truly wrote the words without copying from the Hostgator tech training manual.

Hello,
Your restore request is complete at this time and [ https://mobilebeyond.net/ ] is loading successfully.
The IP address, plan, etc. are confirmed to match the pre-restore configuration. As mentioned in our previous response, we also have a pre-restore backup in the event you need anything rolled back.
If you have any issues with the restore, please let us know and we will get them taken care of straight away.
Thanks!
Cordially,
John S.

Great work, John! I like techs who use solid language like “pre-restore configuration.”
My feedback to the HostGator:
I must say it’s refreshing to deal with such professionals, after my short, abrupt, unsatisfing experience with a GoDaddy rep today, who not only didn’t read my email but clearly had memorized all the trite, purposeless verbiage he wrote without a spell checker.
John S. must have wanted to become an author instead of a Host Gator Tech. If not that, management has surely trained him to utter the most brilliant, reassuring statements I’ve ever read, including a phrase lost in the past, namely “…taken care of …straight away.”
Keep it up the great work, guys and gals.
Until the next time my site crashes, I am
Truly Yours,
Brian
